Description
When the Planet Express Ship is attacked by space pirates, Bender, sleeping in a torpedo tube, gets launched into space. He speeds through an asteroid field and accidentally accumulates a microscopic civilization on his stomach, who declare him God, and worship him despite his constant inability to provide for their needs.

As has been explained before, believing in god and believing in science are two sides of a coin. however, i can say that the only reason religeon has survived as long as it has is because of its inability to be proved wrong. something that cannot be proven, or disproven, stands as theory and remains a *possible* explanation for mankind. Furthermore, science itself consists entirely of rules, guidelines for the makings of the universe. that is not to say that the universe itself was not created, or designed, by a higher power or 'god' but not as we know it. in the episode, the most logical individual to govern the universe would be an infallable, infinite robot that cannot die and is immune to emotion or compassion. basically, if i were to make a universe that i wanted to be completely self sufficient ( like our universe, it will continue and has existed without our imput whatsoever) then i would make sure that whatever controlled said universe could survive as long as the universe itself. for me, science offers more explanation for the workings of our lives and the planet we live in. science confuses and amazes us every year that goes by ( in the last 200 years technology has exploded) but who knows, maybe relidgeon and science will meet in the middle somewhere down the line, and that what we see of relidgeon is the very highest form of science. Thankyou for listening.

people won't be sure you've done anything at all.
What this means is that by telling Bender that one should not always count on God he saved the Monks who normaly would have perished, so in a way God saved them. At least that's how I understood it :)

And how would you know, Grand Theft Bike? Religion may be crazy, but aetheism is ignorance.

is definetly not ignorence. u give me proof that someones up there lookin out 4 us. so many people have died for religion, i just dont see how it can be such a good thing, or how God can be a compasionate being and not help or persuade people not to murder for him. im just saying if there is a God we r not worshipping him well (and a real God wouldnt need worshipping atall) and if there isnt a God it says a bit about the nature of humans. However dont get me wrong. i no that religion also helps people live lives filled with kindness and love, but it also causes pain, death and misery

it means that if god does things exactly right there's always going to be people that doubt his existence or that he ever did anything.
And aetheism isnt ignorance. Everyone has the right to believe of chose not to believe. If one chooses to believe in science that is also a belief. In other words there's no difference between the two. Basicly we're all ignortant if one of the two makes us ignorant. An ignorant thing to say what you said...

science is a discipline not a belief system. Comparing it to religion is kind of ridiculous, REALLY ridiculous. If your metaphysical oversimplifications were true it would make quite the boring world

this is a cartoon yeah, but like the simpsons its a commentary on real issues and ideas, so matt groening (or however you spell it) obviously has something to say about god. still trying to figure out what though...

This has always been my favorite episode. I think its very true to the underlying nature of humanity, (even though they're hobbits or whatever). It's true though, we will worship anything we don't understand.

Matt Groening is an atheist. But there's nothing wrong with making a episode based on something, even something you believe to be fallacious. you imbecile.
People don't really believe in vampires, but we still watch Dracula.
Best Episode Ever
All life's big questions in one episode. This is not about the superficial existence of God; it's about existence's meaning and purpose. That is God.
sorry
there's no sound in space.
Futurama
This is a *cartoon*. It is for *entertainment*. Anyone who thinks otherwise is obviously thinking a little too hard. Peace, all.
By the way, Jesus saves.

Why does God have to have compassion?
Just because there's a god doesn't mean he cares about us or our well being. Or even knows he's a god.
Atheism is spelt like that dumbasses
You'd think if you were having an arguement about it you'd spell it right
Deep
